About This Lake

Lac de lion is a 5 acre spring fed lake nestled in a wooded valley with five known 60s to 66.4lb, with plenty of 50s and a good head of 40s and 30s, including mirrors commons koi and grass carp.

Due to the microchipping programme started in 2020, we have been chipping as many over 30lb fish as possible, we can now follow the growth rates and see the weight gains year on year.

Located on the Dordogne/ Haute Vienne border, this region of France is known for its warm summers and mild spring and autumn, Lac de Lion is surrounded by oak, beech and pine trees, situated a kilometre down its own track and over a mile from the nearest house which ensures you will have peace and quiet for your weeks fishing. Lac de lion has been owned by Paul and Debs since 2003 and was stocked with over 120 carp to supplement the existing carp stock in 2004 and only fished occasionally until 2020 when we first advertised it as a commercial fishery.

The lake is unfished over the winter ensuring the carp are in their prime at the start of each season resulting in large hard fighting fish you will want to catch. With angler feed back telling us they have never fished a lake where the 40″s and 50″s are caught so frequently with many catching their first 50 after many trips to other lakes (with the lake record mirror caught in July 2024 at 66.04lb and a further 4 different 60s coming out since 2022. We have had one angler catch all five 60s( over several trips) so could you be the next one.

There is a good head of common carp in the lake, with plenty of upper 30s and 40s being caught. The lake record common is a 48lb common. this was unchipped, so there are probably more surprises to come.

Stock

Lac de lion was stocked in 2004 with over 120 carp from a well known fish farmer to increase the stock of mirrors and commons that were in the lake when it was bought in 2003.
We implemented a microchipping programe in 2020 to allow us to keep record of the growth of the larger carp stocks,  so we now know we have 5 different 60lb mirrors at least 17 50s and numerous 40s 30s and 20s for you to catch.

Lac de lion has approximatly 180 carp in 5 acres of water (2 hectres) currently the biggest mirror is 66.04lb  and the biggest common 48lb.
We do have some large catfish as well, with one individual having been hooked numerous times over the last two years but not actually landed, until 2025 when finally after a mammouth battle lasting over one and a half hours and with several members of their group taking turns it was finally landed and weighed over 140lb.
We are operating a scheme of taking out any small catfish (under 50lb) to prevent them becoming a nuisance.

As mentioned we are operating a microchipping programme, therefore you are given a scanner to scan the fish and record the number. we ask that you do this on any fish whilst in the landing net, as we do have some smaller fish chipped as well. PLEASE NOTE THAT SCANNERS ARE NOT WATERPROOFAND MUST BE KEPT IN THE BAG GIVEN TO YOU WHEN NOT USING, ALSO THEY MUST BE KEPT OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

Koi to 26lb and grass carp to 20lb have been landed with anglers catching carp off the surface on hot days, the surface record being a whopping 47lb. With 8 carp caught off the surface in one afternoon on floating bread, it shows with perseverence you can have some great catches. There is roach rudd and perch so an afternoon with a tub of maggots float fishing or trying a lure can be great fun.
Stalking can be great way to catch fish on the hotter days, with lots of little spots around the edge of the lake, fishing with a small float and sweetcorn can be a very productive way to catch some of the more elusive fish.
